Chateau de la Montagne
About this location
The Chateau de la Montagne is a study in contrasts, where the ruin inside meets the relentless greenery pressing in from every window and doorway. Its decaying interior holds a curved wooden staircase rising through a debris-strewn hall, a kitchen with its tile backsplash and cabinets defaced by graffiti, and rooms where peeling plaster and faded red-orange walls expose the building’s bones. Among the rubble, a framed heraldic panel still hangs on a dark green wall, its knight’s helmet and family coats of arms eerily preserved. The heavy ivy and bright daylight of the surrounding grounds only sharpen the gloom within, making the chateau feel less abandoned than slowly consumed.
