Château Martial / Château Napoleon
About this location
The château sits heavily in its overgrown grounds, dry grass and dense bushes swallowing the arched entryway and ground-floor windows while the weathered roof and chimneys still catch the sun. Inside, the decay is pervasive—yellow block-patterned walls and dark wainscoting peel beneath exposed beams, with rubble and fallen timber strewn across tiled floors in rooms both intimate and grand. In the quieter corners, worn leather armchairs gather around dusty coffee tables holding green bottles and scattered papers, while one table still bears a lit candle beside a blue guidebook to central and southern France, casting the only warm glow over the remnants. Deeper in, a high-ceilinged salon with arched windows lets daylight pour through holes in the ceiling onto a dark sofa and debris-choked floor, a chaotic, forgotten stillness left hanging in the air.
