Quarry of the Lost Art
The NetherlandsLimburg•••••••
About this location
Beneath the dense Limburg forest, a network of old quarry tunnels still holds the weight of its past, with crumbling brickwork, exposed stone arches, and low, rough-hewn ceilings scattered with debris. Above ground, the site has been almost entirely reclaimed by nature: a barred entrance sinks into the greenery, a concrete structure with a metal grate roof blends into the undergrowth, and a partially collapsed stone shelter pokes through the vegetation. The surrounding countryside stays surprisingly peaceful, with a stone wall, a weathered wooden bridge, and a paved path threading past the overgrowth—making this a beautiful and fascinating place to wander, even as the forgotten passages slowly decay.
