Murder House / Deer Head Barn
About this location
In Hainaut, a low, wide building sits almost swallowed by dense vines and trees, its weathered shingled roof and overgrown frontage broken by a large central opening where the rear of a dark vehicle or trailer lurks in shadow and a white paneled door stands half-covered at right. Inside, the decay feels long-term: peeling wallpaper and debris in the hallway, broken furniture, a kitchen of wooden cabinets and a tiled countertop with items scattered across the floor, and a dim living room where a chandelier, floral couch, and loose papers sit in neglect. The dining room is the strangest contrast, abandoned yet largely intact, with green patterned wallpaper, a red ceiling and dark beams, brown hexagonal floor tiles, a wooden table still set with plates and chairs, sideboard china, shelves of plates and teapots, an animal pelt on the floor, and curtains above a radiator. A weathered wooden crucifix with carved faces rests on a cracked shelf in a dim room, giving the whole place a quiet, eerie atmosphere.
