Sanatorio
About this location
The corridors of this Milanese sanatorio stretch into shadow, their peeling paint and crumbling plaster framing tall metal windows and louvered doors, while a small cross still hangs above a radiator beneath a silent ceiling fan. Inside one decaying room, the tiled floor is stained and scattered with debris, but the most striking remnants are the large window panels painted with cartoon bears and a tiger—now heavily shattered, with one broken pane swung open to admit sunlight through overgrown foliage. A red fire extinguisher sits abandoned in the foreground, and on the sunlit exterior steps, a pair of bright red rubber clogs lie forgotten among dry weeds and rusting railings, marking the last trace of human presence in this stark, still place.
