Bunker Water
About this location
At Bunker Water in Pas-de-Calais, large concrete bunkers lie half-buried in pale sand dunes and along the beach, their cracked walls pierced by dark rectangular openings and their interiors open to visitors. The surfaces are heavily tagged with colorful graffiti, from blue-and-red lettering and bubble letters to faded wave, ocean, and crab murals, while green algae stains and scattered rubble mark their bases. Inside, small rectangular rooms have graffiti-covered concrete walls, sand-and-dirt floors tracked with footprints, bricked-up patches, and small holes, with debris along the edges. Outside, leaning wooden posts, a graffiti-marked fence, sparse dry vegetation, dead branches, and another low concrete structure tagged GRIM sit among the dunes and distant structures, with the sea, a rusted cylindrical vent, and exposed metal rods reinforcing the desolate coastal decay.
