Approached from the road marked by the white LE CHATENET sign, the Doctor S Mansion in Aisne reveals itself only gradually: an overgrown field of patchy dry grass, a small tree and bushes, and power lines crossing an overcast sky give way to rolling fields and dense trees under heavy clouds. Behind a thick band of green trees stands the large, multi-story brick and stone house, its steep gray slate roofs, tall chimneys, and dormer windows visible against the gray light. Several windows are dark, and vegetation crowds the lower structure, while a sloping field rises behind the roofline. From the open ground there is no obvious structural decay in view, just a quiet, overgrown atmosphere where the mansion remains half-hidden by trees.
